Higher yields with a smaller, better-paid crew. It is easier than you think.

Are you confident that your highest performing workers are really your best performers? Most growers are surprised to find the reality is different from what they think.
Dataphyll was conceived and developed by Kiwi growers, including Whangarei orchardist and Young Horticulturist of the Year 2014 Patrick Malley. It is one more piece of Kiwi ingenuity built for growers contending with tough conditions, by a balanced team of orchardists and technologists.
CEO Christoph Kistler says the nature of horticulture makes a casual workforce almost inevitable, and with it the twin problems of motivation and engagement.
“The problem we are solving for growers is one they face year in and year out when it comes to incentivising pickers, holding on to good staff and ensuring accurate measurement of yields. The software contributes to better training outcomes — specific and measurable — and helps employers get more done with less staff because managers can identify reliable workers and high performers and reward them accordingly.”
Stakeholders include Christoph Kistler, CEO; Kerrin Roberts, Director; and Patrick Malley, Director.
Dataphyll Grow is built alongside orchardists, from both a technical and an investment perspective, and backed by people in horticulture who want tools that actually help operations. The company runs a test orchard where new features are proven in the real world before release.
The team listens with the aim of learning from the market, rather than making technology for its own sake.
On-orchard data collection and mobile technology work together to store and analyse data that can be used functionally, forming a complete orchard management system for the New Zealand and global horticultural industry.
The software and its data integrate with the other platforms growers already run, including PayHero, Agrismart and Radfords.
"Data-driven decision making is key for us now. With the data we collected last year, we can forecast how many pickers, crew leaders, and scanners we'll need for the next season – we have access to that data, and it's helping us plan ahead."
